The association’s mission is connecting, advancing, and leading the flexible packaging industry. Flexible packaging represents over $43 billion in annual sales in the U.S. and is the second largest and one of the fastest growing segments of the packaging industry. Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council (SPMC):
The Sterilization Packaging Manufacturers Council (SPMC) was formed in June of 1994 as a council of FPA. SPMC’s member companies are FPA members that specialize in packaging for the medical device industry. SPMC focuses on the unique requirements and standards for sterilization packaging. Their guidance provides consistency to the development of sterilizable flexible packaging; improves understanding throughout the packaging supply chain; and ensures the quality and safety of flexible sterilization packaging. Some of SPMC’s work is referenced by the International Organization for Standards (ISO) and has been incorporated into ASTM standards, which have been accepted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as Consensus Standards.
