Overview
Since 1983, Malletech has been a cornerstone of the percussion world. Founded and still currently led by marimba virtuoso Leigh Howard Stevens, Malletech prides itself on being synonymous with innovative design, a high standard of excellence, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. These three tenets have built Malletech into the premier provider of keyboard percussion instruments, mallets, and accessories in the world.
From its earliest days, Malletech has focused on advancing the performance and design of keyboard percussion through thoughtful engineering and musician-driven innovation. Every Malletech product is created with a deep understanding of sound, balance, touch, and musical response, informed by decades of professional performance experience. Our instruments and mallets are designed not simply as tools, but as extensions of the artist—capable of supporting the highest levels of musical expression.
We are extremely proud to boast eleven U.S. Patents for keyboard percussion design, reflecting Malletech’s long-standing leadership in innovation and craftsmanship. These patented designs have helped shape modern expectations for marimbas and other keyboard percussion instruments and continue to influence performers, educators, and institutions worldwide. Today, Malletech products are recognized and used across the globe in concert halls, universities, studios, and performance venues.
Equally central to our identity is our Artist Endorser roster of over 75 world-class musicians. These artists represent the highest level of artistry and excellence in the percussion community. Their insight, collaboration, and feedback play a vital role in the continued refinement and evolution of Malletech instruments and mallets, ensuring that our products remain musically relevant and performance-driven. The worldwide recognition and trust in Malletech is a direct reflection of these partnerships.
Never one to rest on our laurels, Malletech continues to press toward the future. We are constantly improving our instrument and mallet designs, refining materials, construction, and performance characteristics while also developing new and imaginative products that will change the landscape of the percussion world.
In 2024, Malletech was acquired by the Eastman Music Company. Founded in 1992 by accomplished flutist Qian Ni after graduating from the Boston University School of Music, Eastman Music Company is now the largest manufacturer of string instruments worldwide, renowned for hand-crafting violins, violas, cellos, and basses in the centuries-old luthier tradition. Eastman Music Company is also a top-tier maker of acoustic guitars and home to several high-end boutique instrument brands, including Wm. S. Haynes, Backun Musical Services, S.E. Shires, Willson Band Instruments, and Bourgeois.
As Malletech celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024, this partnership ensures that the company’s legacy will continue to flourish and thrive for the next 40 years and beyond. The entire Malletech team remains as committed as ever to providing the best keyboard percussion instruments and mallets in the world.
That’s what makes us Malletech.
