Overview
Mapcreator is a web-based mapping tool used by newsrooms and broadcast stations to create custom maps for editorial storytelling. The interface is designed to be intuitive, enabling users to add markers, shapes, text, and data layers, while customising colours and styles to match their organisationโs branding.
The platform offers features such as geocoding, routing, and data-driven maps, and supports the creation of both map stills and animations. Mapcreator integrates with Adobe products and newsroom systems, allowing maps to be created, edited, and published within existing production workflows. This makes it possible for journalists, designers, and editors to produce high-quality map visuals regardless of their level of technical expertise.
With over 15 years of use in the media industry, Mapcreator has evolved from a tool focused on print-ready maps into a solution tailored for digital-first publishing. It now supports interactive maps, online embeds, and animated outputs. In response to changing market demands, Mapcreator introduced map animations in 2022, enabling static maps to be transformed into engaging animated visuals for broadcast, web, and social platforms.
