Our sustainable folding boxboard range includes lightweight paperboards with a natural look and feel as well as coated paperboards for premium image reproduction and luxury appearance.  They offer high yield, excellent printability, and superior safety for a wide variety of packaging applications. The functional properties of our lightweight products are the same or better than heavier grades, making it possible to create sustainable packaging without compromising on performance. 

Metsä Board’s pure, safe barrier boards are suitable for food, food service and other packaging applications that require resistance to grease or moisture and can be used for direct food contact. They are ideal for items such as cups, trays, and take-out containers but also for refrigerated and frozen food packaging. Our portfolio includes both PE extrusion-coated paperboards and an easily recyclable and compostable barrier paperboard.

Metsä Board white kraftliners offer a wide range of options that can be used from lightweight microflute to heavy duty corrugated packaging. It provides options for point-of-sale, off-self, retail-ready and shelf-ready packaging that protects products during transportation and storage and catches consumers’ attention. Our portfolio consists of three white top kraftliners and a fully bleached kraftliner that can be used also as fluting. Our kraftliners provide opportunities for lightweighting without compromising on strength in different designs, even in very light basis weights.

Consumer concerns and tightening regulations have intensified the drive for more sustainable and safe packaging. At the same time, improving performance and efficiency are important. We are also a forerunner in sustainability and deeply committed to the environment.  Among other things, we are aiming for 100% fossil free production and products by 2030.  Our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets are endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and meet the strictest requirements of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels.  Our targets for 2030 are based on Metsä Group’s strategic sustainability objectives and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
