Overview
Moffett’s inception in 2017 marked the beginning of a new chapter in material handling
solutions. Despite our relatively short history, Moffett Automation has swiftly gained recognition
for its forward-thinking approach and dedication to pushing the boundaries of what’s
achievable in automated pallet storage.
Moffett Automation specialises in designing, manufacturing, and installing fully automated
pallet storage systems using the Moffett Taxi Technology.
The Moffett AS/R system is a sophisticated material handling solution designed for efficient and
automated storage and retrieval of palletised goods in warehouses or distribution centres. This
system utilises advanced technology, including robotic shuttles, to optimise the handling of
pallets within a storage environment. Here is a detailed description of the key features and
functionalities of such a system:
• Moffett Taxi: The system employs autonomous robotic shuttles that can move in
multiple directions within the storage racks, including between levels. These shuttles
are equipped with sensors, cameras, and other navigation technologies to ensure
precise and safe movement within the storage structure.
• Operating Temperature: The Moffett Taxi is capable of operating in temperatures of -27°C
– +50°C.
• Multi-Directional Movement: Unlike traditional automated storage and retrieval systems
(AS/RS) that move along a single axis, multi-directional shuttles can navigate in various
directions—forward, backwards, left, and right, up, and down.
• This multi-directional capability allows for greater flexibility in accessing pallets stored
in different locations within the racks. High-Density Storage: One of the primary
advantages of a multi-directional shuttle system is its ability to achieve high-density
storage. The taxis can access and store pallets in dense configurations, optimising the
use of available space in the warehouse.
• Automated Control System: The entire shuttle system is integrated with a sophisticated
control system that is developed in-house by Moffett Software developers. This system
manages the movements of individual shuttles, coordinates storage and retrieval tasks,
and ensures overall system efficiency.
The control system may be interfaced with a warehouse management system (WMS) for
seamless integration into the broader logistics and inventory management processes.
• Energy Efficiency: The Moffett AS/R System is designed with energy efficiency in mind.
The shuttles use advanced battery management systems and work on an opportunity
charging process to ensure the most efficient output.
• Scalability: The system is often designed to be scalable, allowing businesses to expand
their automated storage capacity as needed. Additional taxis can be added to the
system to accommodate growing storage requirements.
• Reliability and Redundancy: To ensure continuous operation, the system is designed
with reliability in mind. Redundancy features are incorporated to minimise downtime in
the event of a component failure.
