Founded in 2005, Phageguard is at the forefront of applied phage technology, enhancing food safety management systems by controlling foodborne pathogens like Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli O157. By leveraging the unique ability of bacteriophages, Phageguard provides a natural, clean-label processing aid that precisely targets these pathogenic bacteria in processing lines, while preserving beneficial bacteria and maintaining the organoleptic properties of treated products.
Our phage product, Phageguard S, is designed for the meat and poultry industry to control Salmonella with versatile application options at critical control points. To ensure effective control, we iteratively conduct performance tests on our product with a continuous expanding strain library that includes all prevalent serotypes encountered in the industries. From familiar serotypes like S. Typhimurium and S. Enteritidis, to industry-specific serotypes such as S. Hadar in turkey and S. Derby in pork, we enable meat processors to strengthen their pathogen control strategies and support poultry processors in achieving their desired categorization. Headquartered in the Food Valley near Wageningen University, and supported by physical stock and an experienced phage team in North America, we offer the food industry ease of processing with our phage innovations.
