Overview
The Talon is an innovative adapter to effectively secure existing styles of fall protection completely outside a low-slope roof’s edge detailing. Existing methods of securing fall protection impede efficient installation near the outer edge, result in the need for numerous phases of “full” tie-off of workers, and create the need for excessive patching and challenges with maintaining watertightness. With an easily adjustable collar on a threaded pipe, the safety system can be raised by +/- 12” so the crew can remain in compliance as the roof system thickness grows, meaning it can remain installed from the first day of mobilization until the system is ready for edge metal with little to no inconvenience to the crew. There are options for accommodating both systems scaffolding ring lock style guardrails (single post) as well as traditional safety railing which are typically installed into a heavy base (double post), allowing roofers to utilize safety systems they likely already own. The approach is the first of its kind to effectively protect workers on new construction projects with only a perimeter steel angle to which edge protection can be secured. The patent pending design has been field-tested and refined over multiple years of successful installations on high profile projects with high praise from roofers and general contractors alike and has obtained industry-leading force resistance to comply with OSHA standard 1910.29 (B) “Guardrail Systems.”
