Dotty’s brand began in 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. In the beginning Dotty’s Donut Mix was the focus of Iowa Donut Supply, which also supplied donut making equipment and donut toppings. As time went on Dotty’s was a franchised donut shop and had several locations throughout Iowa, but they all eventually closed. Through this time Dotty’s also ended selling and servicing equipment and worked on adding other breading products including Dotty’s One Step Breading Mix. The brand was acquired by Todd’s Foods in 2023.

Barnard’s brand began in 1945 in Wichita, Kansas at the Barnard House Family Restaurant with the signature breading mix Barnard’s Crunchy Dip. Through the years Barnard’s Crunchy Dip became a popular choice breading product throughout the Midwest. Production was moved from Wichita, Kansas to Iowa City, Iowa and then in 1994 to Des Moines, Iowa where it is currently being made.
